Spring Break Car Maintenance Checklist for Peace of Mind

Spring Break Road Trips Start with Smart Vehicle Prep

Spring break is a popular time for road trips, whether you’re heading to the beach, visiting family, or planning a quick getaway with friends. Making sure your vehicle is ready before you leave can help prevent unexpected breakdowns and delays. To help you travel with confidence, here are five spring break road trip tips from Team Ryan Automotive.

1. Get an Oil Change Before You Go

Fresh oil helps keep your engine running smoothly, especially on long highway drives. If your oil is dirty or you’re approaching your next service interval, it’s best to address it before your trip. At Team Ryan Automotive, every oil change includes a complimentary inspection that checks key items such as tire condition and air pressure, as well as the battery.

These checks can help identify small issues before they become larger problems on the road. Even if your oil change isn’t due yet, you can still stop by for a quick tire or battery check before your trip.

2. Check Tire Condition and Air Pressure

Tires play a huge role in both safety and fuel efficiency. Inspect your tires for adequate tread depth to handle spring rain and changing road conditions. Look for uneven wear, cracks, or bulges that could lead to trouble on the road.

Make sure all tires are properly inflated, and don’t forget to check the spare tire in case of an emergency. Tire condition and air pressure are checked as part of our complimentary inspection with every oil change, and we’re always happy to take a quick look between oil changes if you want added peace of mind before your trip.

3. Test the Battery and Charging System

Temperature changes from winter to spring can take a toll on your battery. The last thing you want during spring break is a car that will not start at a rest stop or hotel. A battery and charging system test is included with every Team Ryan Automotive oil change, helping ensure your battery and alternator are ready for the miles ahead. If your battery is showing signs of weakness, replacing it before you leave can save you time, stress, and frustration.

4. Inspect Brakes and Brake Fluid

Spring break driving often means frequent stops, from congested highways to crowded streets in beach towns. Reliable brakes are essential for safe travel. Pay attention to any squeaking, grinding, or vibration when braking, as well as a soft or spongy brake pedal. Our technicians can inspect your brakes and brake fluid to ensure your vehicle stops safely and reliably.

5. Pack a Spring Break Emergency Kit

Even with careful preparation, it’s wise to be ready for the unexpected. An emergency kit for your road trip should include jumper cables, a flashlight, bottled water, a first-aid kit, basic tools, phone chargers and nonperishable snacks. Having these items on hand can make delays or minor issues easier to handle.

Read more on our blog about what to include in a roadside emergency kit.

Bonus Tip: Schedule a Pre-Trip Inspection

Before your spring break adventure begins,  schedule your service and travel with peace of mind. Our certified technicians will check key systems like fluids, belts, hoses, tires, and more.

What an incredible season and a moment of pride for the entire Buford community. This championship represents a true dedication to hard work, discipline, and teamwork, and it is a testament to a program that continues to set the standard both on and off the field. At Team Ryan Automotive, we are incredibly proud to be a sponsor of this outstanding program, not only for what these athletes accomplish under the Friday night lights, but for the leadership and character they demonstrate beyond the game. The Buford Wolves consistently show that success is about more than wins and trophies. It is about integrity, accountability, and lifting others up along the way. Earlier this year at a Buford Academy pep rally, the football team took time to personally connect with every child in the room, making each student feel seen and valued. Moments like that show what this program truly stands for. Character. Community. And doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Our son Aidan shared how much it meant to him that he “got to slap hands with the real football team players,” a small moment that left a big impression. Experiences like that inspire younger students and remind all of us how powerful positive role models can be. That spirit of leadership and heart is something our family and our entire team at Team Ryan Automotive align with wholeheartedly. We believe in showing up for our community, supporting one another, and leading by example, values we see reflected so clearly in this program. Well earned, Wolves. Buford is proud of you, and we are honored to stand behind such an incredible team. 💚🏈
